This meeting follows on from the success of the 1st European Conference on Translational Bioinformatics (ECTB 2016) at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. It brought together scientists and entrepreneurs who are interested in translating genomics and bioinformatics research into healthcare tools and services; for researchers, computational biologists and entrepreneurs (from start-ups and established companies) interested in epidemiology, cancer genomics and precision medicine.
The 2nd European Conference on Translational Bioinformatics presented speakers addressing:
- Bioinformatic services: data capture, curation and sharing
- Health data integration and analytics
- Cancer genomics
- Disease studies and large cohort data
- Community engagement: open sources
- Bioinformatics start-ups and entrepreneurs
- Genomics, literature repositories and text mining
The 2nd European Conference on Translational Bioinformatics (ECTB 2017) conference brought together world-leading scientists in the area and aimed to give the participants a unique experience and a forum for discussing fresh scientific results in the translational domain.
The Conference was organized by the “Wellcome Genome Campus” in Hinxton and supported by the Horizon 2020 MedBioinformatics project. MedBioinformatics aims to develop bioinformatics tools and applications of relevance for analysing the huge amount of data and knowledge generated in healthcare and biomedical research with the further aim of facilitating translational research and precision medicine.
This meeting contributions highlighted recent advances in the tools and techniques that are facilitating translational research and precision medicine. The programme included talks on how informatics can be used to improve drug discovery and development and to treat disease, and how it is helping to centralise and organise medical knowledge. The conference also included a workshop on how to start a company, with insights from entrepreneurs who have made the transition from academic-based bioinformatics research to the commercial sector; and had a poster session organised to give participants the opportunity to present individual papers.
The MedBioinformatics project coordinator invited all ECTB2017 participants to attend the upcoming 3rd European Conference on Translational Bioinformatics (ECTB 2018) that will take place in Barcelona, April 16-17th of 2018. More information will follow soon.
