Consorci Mar Parc de Salut de Barcelona (PSMAR) is a public institution responsible for several health care facilities in the Barcelona area, including two general hospitals, an institute of psychiatry, an institute of geriatrics, and various outpatient facilities dedicated to mental health, addictions, primary care and family planning. The PSMAR owns also a research institute (Institut hospital del Mar d’Investigacions Mèdiques, IMIM), as well as teaching facilities in agreement with Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Universitat Pompeu Fabra (see description of partner no. 7). A PSMAR-related institution, Fundació Institut Mar d’Investigacions Mèdiques (FIMIM), is in charge of managing the research of PSMAR. FIMIM is included as third party in MedBioinformatics and will handle the financial EC contribution of the project.
Seven hundred PSMAR and FIMIM professionals develop research activities in the framework of IMIM, of which one 190 are principal investigators distributed in 56 research groups integrated into the five multi-disciplinary research programmes: Cancer, Epidemiology and Public Health, Cardiovascular and Inflammatory Processes, Biomedical Informatics, and Neurosciences. IMIM’s Research Programme on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB) is involved in MedBioinformatics assuming its scientific coordination.
